Penang Teong Leng Keong Jelutong Seong Tay Kong

Jelutong Seong Tay Kong was established in 1974. Initially it was named as ‘Qiu She Tuah’, located at the junction between Magazine Street and Gladstone Road. Teong Tuah Guan Sui started to offer consultation sessions. Two years later, Pak Kek Hean Tian Seong Tay started to offer consultations for medical treatment and disaster relief to help the public.

Due to the impact of urban development in Georgetown, the temple was forced to relocate to Jelutong on 30th February 1985 (14th day of 12th month lunar calendar), and renamed as ‘Teong Leng Keong’.

In 1997, as told by Pak Kek Hean Tian Seong Tay, the temple committee went to China, Guang Dong Province, ‘Yuan San Shi’ (a temple over 800 years old), and brought back the incense of Hean Tian Seong Tay, to strengthen the temple’s power. From then on, the temple changed to be named as ‘Hean Boo Suah Teong Leng Keong’.

On 11th July 2001, the temple was officially registered and recognized as a religious organization under the name ‘Persatuan Penganut Dewa Seong Tay Kong’.

Since 2002, the temple has been located at Lot 770, Lebuhraya Jelutong, 11600 Georgetown, Pulau Pinang (coming in straight from the road beside Jelutong post office).

On 21st April 2004 (3rd day of 3rd month lunar calendar), Pak Kek Hean Tian Seong Tay appointed 12 associate members to assist in the affairs of consultation sessions. The associate members held a swearing-in ceremony in front of Pak Kek Hean Tian Seong Tay on 25th July 2004 (9th day of 6th month lunar calendar).

Caring Charity Society was formed in 2004. On 27th June 2004, the society officially started the recycling program in respond to support the government ‘Create a Greener Environment’ campaign. Proceedings from the collection, everything is used for charity purposes and donation to the needy and less fortunate.

As a result of the increasing numbers of devotees coming for consultations, starting on 28th November 2004, the temple offer an additional consultation day on Sunday afternoon.

On 2010, 3rd day of 3rd month lunar calendar, Pak Kek Hean Tian Seong Tay was awarded, and then on the temple was renamed as ‘Teong Leng Keong Jelutong Seong Tay Kong’.

The celebration of Pak Kek Hean Tian Seong Tay Divine Birthday was held annually on 3rd day of 3rd month lunar calendar. In conjunction to the celebration, apart from carrying out the Taoist rituals, the temple organized Alms Giving Event to old folks, and annual banquet dinner. On 1st day of 9th month lunar calendar, celebrate ‘Bei Dou Nine Emperor’ birthday; 9th day of 9th month lunar calendar, celebrate ‘Pak Kek Hean Tian Seong Tay Enlightment Day’; 15th day of 9th month lunar calendar, celebrate ‘Teong Tuah Guan Sui’ birthday.

In addition to the above activities, the temple has also hosted ‘Environmental Seminars’. Annually on the 7th month of lunar calendar, the temple held ‘Qiao Tor’ ceremony for the deceased. At times, the temple also participates in other temple gods celebration tour parade.
